Blessed is the Kingdom

Seeking The Kingdom In All Things

You Are The Light

Today I learned a few new things about the process of writing an icon. Perhaps the most important for me was that the paints can be very forgiving. I suppose there is something good in being reminded of mercy throughout the process. I am learning through mistakes at this point, but I have a good teacher who is showing me how to correct them as we go. She assures me that we can correct even more in the later steps.

There was also the primary lesson today about the light of the natural world. We began to add highlights to the image today, the first of several steps meant to bring forward the inner light of Saint Michael, so that it can be seen more clearly. The idea is that we as Christians are on a journey to uncover Christ in our lives, who is the light of the world and that the process begins here in the light of God’s created cosmos.

I wish I had the time to learn iconography. May your hands and eyes be blessed!

Thanks! This has been a great experience so far, but one that is taking an immense amount of energy….spiritual, mental and physical. Hopefully it can be a new way of prayer for me from here on out.
