Blessed is the Kingdom

Seeking The Kingdom In All Things

I’m looking for co-conspirators

It was great to post the first video to this blog yesterday and to have such a positive response to the suggesions which the Advent Conspiracy is promoting. My friend Jill noted that too often we tend to see a message like this one and simply add to what we are already spending, but the concept here is different because there is a sacrifice involved. The people behind this cause are asking us to spend less than we normally do during this pre-Christmas season so that we can give more to others.

With this in mind, I am making an invitation to those who are reading this post to join me in accepting the challenge to spend less on gifts, food, etc. and to give the money that is saved to someone in need. The money could certainly go to the suggested water project at the Advent Conspiracy website or simply to the poor who live near you. My goal will be a modest one of spending 25 dollars less each week during Advent that will go to charity. If anyone else will join me, I could certainly use the support of some co-conspirators. Post a comment here to let me know if you are in!

    Count me in!

I also recommend that we put this on the “list” our loved ones ask from us for gift ideas

I found your blog through the Catholic mom forum. I had not heard of the Advent Conspiracy until now. Thank you! Definitely going to do it and I’m sending the link to others in my family and parish.

But if I tell people I’m giving alms instead of gifts, won’t I lose my reward? :)
