Serenity
The Christian is by nature a man of gentleness and quiet, or serenity and peace. (Clement of Alexandria)
The beginning of every backpacking trip requires a few days to leave behind all the noise and distractions that go along with the busy world we live in. The great thing about the most recent trip is the fact that it was long enough to allow the peacefulness of the woods to sink in. As a result, the silence of the trail is still lingering. My days are back to their normal fullness, but my attitude has retained the pace of the trail. It is impossible to know how long this will last, but I hope to hold on to it for as long as possible. The slower pace and inner quiet is good for the soul.

Your post makes me wish I was there on the trail! A mother of a toddler and preschooler I get very little quiet time. Glad you had a nice trip!
So, I have silly question: Did you guys celebrate Mass everyday? This is sort of like Brian telling me that he couldn’t wait to ask his friend what “it” (the Host) tastes like (today is 2nd grades first communion).
We only celebrated it for Sunday. What did his friend tell him it tasted like?
It was today, so I won’t find out till tonight, but I will be headed your way for a memorial service and then back again tomorrow night.
I asked him why didn’t he think to ask someone he already knows who is taking communion (ie Mom or Dad) but he didn’t seem to understand my point, so I let it slide. He’s already marchind down the path of parental obsolecence.
Beautiful quotation–thanks.
