Getting To Know You

Jennifer over at Conversion Diary gave me the idea to create this blogpost where we can learn more about the readers of this blog. There are several frequent commentors whom I have enjoyed getting to know so far, but it would be great to find out more about the rest of you. With this in mind, here are some questions to ponder and to answer in the comments section of this post. Let’s make it a fun way of getting to know one another better! And so, for both regular commentors and those just lurking about, here are some conversation starters. Answer any or all of the following.

1. Where are you from? Where do you currently live?

2. Why do you visit this blog?

3. What is a typical day like for you? What’s your favorite part of the day?

4. What is something significant you’ve learned this year?

5. What is your favorite quote?

6. Recommend: one book, one musician, one movie, one blog.

7. What is one thing you’d like to brag about…..if your were a bragger?

8. Who is one of your heroes?

9. What is one thing you would like to do that you have not yet accomplished?

10. If you have a blog, what is the web address?

    Davis,

I too think your dad is a hero. He is a pretty amazing guy.

    B. Hold,

    Invisiible Man is one of my favorites too and most baseball quotes are good. My favorite Phillies quote is from John Kruk. Some people were giving them a hard time in ‘93 for being such slobs and wanted to know why they weren’t acting more like athletes. His response, quot;I’m not an athlete, I’m a baseball player!quot;

    Ironic,

So first, I must tell you that I also now feel a connection to you as two of my best friends are learning canon law at your school, but even more so since you like quot; The Missionquot;. I must say that if Jesus doesn’t count as a hero, we are all in trouble. Steven Rossetti is great and now I have a new book by him to check out. Thanks for the comments y’all!

Hi – great blog you have here. I love reading sites about religion – they are so informative. Thank you for having this one. The internet can be a real blessing, even though some people don’t realize that and use it improperly. I am always interested in reading online about Christianity and your site is very engaging. I don’t have time to read everything right now, I found this site when looking for something else on Bing, but I’ve bookmarked your homepage and will check back soon to see the latest updates. What is your preferred translation of the Bible? I think they are all good, don’t really have a favorite myself. I have a blog with daily Bible readings on it. Around 2:30 or so I pick up Melissa and head home for the afternoon routine of homework and dinner.

Lately, it is also DAily Mass before sending my oldest two off to school for the day…we are doing this during Advent.

Guess this isn’t really “new” but rather, it grows in my depth of understanding: The harder I try to get closer to God, the harder I fall when I fail. And yet, HE never lets go…I do. This is tied into the reality that in order to overcome temptation, you can’t run away…you have to go THROUGH it and just keep you’re eyes on the Cross. No one gets to heaven without passing through temptation….it’s the only way to grow in virtue. (Now, if I could just manage to actually put this into practice….)

  35. I just found the blog because Fr. Christian started following The Mustard Seed Community Farm, in Ames IA on Twitter (@mustardseedfarm). Took a look at the blog and was struck at the many things we seem to have in common. I’ll some of the questions above as I describe them.

I grew up in Clinton, Mo., in the Catholic parish of Holy Rosary – a small Catholic church in a very Baptist town. I have a distant cousin who attended seminary at Conception as well as an acquaintance from my home parish (the older brother of a Catholic school friend). My cousin’s son is currently in seminary there. I spent six months as an intern in Chattanooga, TN in 1995.

I’m a convert to Eastern Orthodoxy and we’re currently trying to start a mission parish here Ames – prayers are appreciated. In addition, I do PR work for The Mustard Seed, local Catholic Worker farm.

And I’ll take a stab @ No. 6 – I would recommend an author, Frederica Mathews Greene. Specifically, Facing East & The Illuminated Heart.

I don’t have a personal blog just yet, so I’ll list the farm’s http://www.mustardseedfarm.org/. I hope to begin contributing soon. (However, I have a 2-year-old, so soon is relative.

  40. Laura Berry says:

    I’m from New Jersey.

A typical day for me means getting up, going to Mass, driving to work … I’m a reporter at a secular newspaper in NJ.

My favorite quote is “We are made for greater things. We are made to love and to be loved” — Mother Teresa

    6. I recommend the short stories of Flannery O’Connor, a movie called “What About Bob?” musician Toby Mac, and if you like sports, check out this sports blog: http://ztyonk88.wordpress.com/ “All About Ball.”

One of my heroes is my mother. She founded a crisis pregnancy center here in New Jersey and works hard helping families. (http://www.lifechoicesonline.org/)

One thing I would like to accomplish? Well, I only started working at my newspaper one month ago, but I’m hoping and waiting for an opportunity to show the “other side of the story” with regard to Catholic priests. The media only seems to publicize negative things about our beloved priests, who work so hard. I would like to use my career to defend them, by telling true stories of the good they do.

My blog is Working Catholics: Keeping the Faith in the work place.
