Blessed is the Kingdom

Seeking The Kingdom In All Things

I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)

DSCN0188

Ok. So today we only walked eight miles on the AT, but we actually have walked over 500 miles on this trail, so I think the song applies. It was a good day to be on the trail, especially since we beat both the heat and the Saturday crowds by following one of our favorite rules.

There is no adequate substitute to an early start!

We also got to spend some time listening to The Black Lillies on the way to and from the trail, so I will leave their song up for an extra day!

Good luck on your hiking. In 1986 (maybe it was 1987), my husband and 10-year-old son hiked 1000 miles of the AT from Georgia to Pennsylvania and then flip-flopped and hiked Maine and New Hampshire. They had to stop when my husband fell and hurt his knees, but they were a bit of a phenomenon that year. Their trail names were Huff and Puff. They got written up in a few places and interviewed on Georgia TV because at the time, little Puff, was the youngest through-hiker. It really built a father-son bond that has lasted two more decades. The whole family hiked a few miles in West Virginia because Doah, Puff’s little brother, really wanted to hike the trail, too, but being severely retarded and medically compromised, it was not possible. It all worked out because from our family hike, we found out that all Doah really wanted to do was pee in the wilderness! To each his own! I hope you enjoy the AT’s beauty, unspoiled (except perhaps for the waterings of a few Doahs).
