Slow Down

The LORD is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack.
In green pastures you let me graze; to safe waters you lead me;
 you restore my strength.

The first few weeks at St. Thomas as pastor have been fast and furious. There are many things demanding attention and I have ended many days tired from the change in responsibilities. It feels in many ways like my first year as a priest, when each day was brand new and full of surprises. This past week I have been intentionally slowing the pace, since I know that one can only survive so long on adrenaline.

Last night at our parish pastoral council meeting I shared with our parish leadership my three goals for the parish in the coming year. First, that we find ways to engage in more prayer and to deepen our existing prayer. Second, that we find additional ways to serve those in need. Lastly, that we create a “culture of sharing” in the parish where everyone is invited to use their gifts fully and that leadership opportunities are continually shared.

My own hope for the coming weeks is to find time to reflect upon specific ways these three goals might be accomplished this year at St. Thomas. We have a solid foundation to build upon. Now is the time to take the steps to build an even stronger community of faith.

    I hope you get your slow-down time and your three goals. They are great goals. As for the 23d psalm, it is my favorite and describes so well how God takes care of me (of everyone who lets Him).

    Your goals sound great. Love the picture. Helpful reminder for sure! We all need to slow down. I also love Psalm 23.
