Seeking The Kingdom In All Things

Denomination Blues

Today was the first time in several months that I have been able to attend our local ministerial association meeting. Our new associate pastor, Fr. Tom and I were both able to make it over to First Baptist Church to spend some time with our fellow ministers. It was an opportunity for me to reconnect with a few folks as well as to meet some newcomers to the area. Ron Jordan, who organizes our meetings put it well this morning when he stated there are many things we do not agree on, things that still divide us, but there are others where we do agree. One of the reasons I believe these meetings are important are to create the relationships that make it possible to work together in bringing the Gospel message to those in our county who have not yet heard it.

The highlight of today’s meeting for me was the fact that our scheduled speaker did not show up. As a result we were able to simply enter into prayer together, listening to a reflection from Ron and bringing one another’s needs to God, along with our reasons to give thanks to the Lord.

We have many years of division in the Christian community that should make us sad, but I for one have hope for continued healing every time I am able to enter into prayer with our separated brethren. Each time we can come together in God’s presence brings us closer to unity through his grace.
