Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head
Today we celebrated our annual fall festival with music, dancing, international cuisine, petting zoos (we even had a tortoise!), and then there was rain, rain, rain. When I awoke this morning I could hear the light sprinkles outside my windows and by the time most of us were eating lunch there were steady walls of rain that lasted for hours. The amazing thing for me, however, was also the steady stream of cars that continued to fill the parking lot throughout most of the afternoon.
There were not only the folks coming in who had bought tickets in advance, but also at least 200 who drove through the rain and lined up at the ticket counter to be able to enjoy food from six different nationalities. One of the things we Catholics know how to do well is eat and today we certainly did that. Greek and Mexican, Irish and Italian, Polish and Filipino….all of it was worth the time spent waiting in line.
St. Thomas continues to amaze me with the strength of our community life. Today was an excellent example as I saw the fruits of several months of work by our volunteers, the spirit of those who showed up despite the rain, the many talents present within the community that are so willingly shared with others and the great hospitality shown to our non-Catholic neighbors.
It makes me happy to be able to be a part of the St. Thomas family. I look forward to even greater things as we continue to walk the path of conversion together!

I know that had to be a great festival because you had a Sulcata Tortoise in attendance. Moo says “Hi!”.
I thought about Moo when I saw the picture of the visiting tortoise.
Moo would have liked the goats too. At one point one was riding on the tortoise’s back.
I bet the tortoise enjoyed the rain!
Sorry I couldn’t be there. I wonder if y’all had as much fun at the Fall Festival as I had at the Gregorian chant workshop at the National Shrine in D.C.
Then again, we didn’t have any reptiles.
A goat riding the tortoise? That was worthy of a picture and a post on Moo the Turtle!
Yes it would have, but unfortunately there is no photo!
