Why Do Catholics Do That?

We are very close to having a new website here at St Thomas the Apostle. One of the new features of the website that I am excited about is the inclusion of podcasts. We will be beginning with two podcasts. The first, called Focus On Ministry, will highlight one of the many ministries at St. Thomas each week and a second yet unnamed podcast will feature my friend and guest blogger Jim Wogan asking me questions about the Catholic faith. We plan to collect questions via the new website, but since it does not yet exist, I am asking help from the readers of this blog, both Catholic and non-Catholic, in producing some good questions about Catholicism. Here is your chance to ask that question you have always wanted to know the answer to and maybe even have it discussed on the new podcast.

So go ahead and hit me with your best shot! Leave your questions in the comment section of this post and visit the new website (www.sthomaslc.com) when it debuts on January 1, 2010 to hear our first parish podcasts.

This sounds like a great new site. I’ll be sure to visit.

Here’s a question that I get asked by non-Catholics: “Why do Catholics call their priests “father” when the Bible plainly says to call no man “father?”

  2. Esperanza says:

Can you explain why women cannot be priests. How likely is it that this will ever change?

  3. Tory says:

Looking forward to seeing the new site. Podcasts are long overdue!

    Here’s a couple of questions:

“Why do Catholics in Latin countries kiss their lips after making the sign of the cross.”
(I do it myself out of habit from living down there for so long and I don’t even know the meaning.)

“What is the best faith based description of what Heaven will be like?”
    “What about Hell?”

And lending from Esperanza’s question: “Why can’t priests marry?” Is the Vatican considering any changes in that area?

  4. Melissa says:

Non-catholics don’t believe in communion of saints – so how do catholic explain those who have gone in death before us can “hear our prayers”?

  5. Fr. Christian Mathis says:

Good questions so far y’all…..keep them coming!

  6. Dan says:

    How about a “why can’t?”

“Why can’t Catholics receive the sacrament of reconciliation in a more modern fashion? – Like over the internet, by phone, or email?”
