Sabbath Sunday: Evangelization

This week for Sabbath Sunday, I chose a post from last year called, Being Messengers of the Good News. Pope Benedict has recently encouraged Catholics, especially the clergy, to take advantage of new forms of communication, such as blogs and social networking, in our work of Evangelization. About a year ago I asked readers of this blog how we might continue to better meet the challenge of preaching the Gospel in the high paced world of today’s society. I am still looking for good ideas and hope some of you will share your thoughts on the subject.

Once again you are invited to join me in promoting the Sabbath by taking a break from your normal blogging.  Please share an older post from your blog that is near and dear to your heart. Make sure to leave your name and the URL of your post below and share a comment if you so desire. I look forward to reading your recycled posts!

Fr. Christian, sorry for linking so late. It is rather ironic that I am ten hours ahead of you in time zones and yet link up late — timing of the day was the problem. I had to teach 6 hours in Lithuania today, which would have been the early morning hours in the USA. Then, I needed to be a path to St. Casimir’s for the last Mass of the day. So, only now, I made it here.

Thanks again for hosting, and I enjoyed your post on Sean’s homily. I have missed a lot of your earlier posts, so it is a fun surprise seeing which ones you choose as special to share on Sunday. As for the question, I don’t have a lot of ideas, but I do know that our Monday night prayer group has resulted in a lot of growth in faith among all of us. Some folks who have had trouble praying developed greater comfort with it. We have seen more than our share of miracles — God has blessed us that way. It happens that not everyone can make it every week. For example, last week and this week I am in Lithuania. Still, I got a taste of prayer group when I reached into my pocket after arriving here and finding a note in my coat pocket from one of the PG members, saying that she would be praying for me while I was away. We call or email each other with prayer requests for the meeting if we are not going to be able to make it or, if a prayer is needed more urgently, before the meeting. It has become a wonderful way to support each other’s spiritual growth and share an experience of God in our midst.

    Thanks Elizabeth!

I really enjoy looking back to older posts too. It helps me see snapshots of where I have been and hopefully to look at the road ahead as well.
