O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power, and idle talk.
But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Thy servant.
Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions, and not to judge my brother, for blessed art Thou, unto ages of ages. Amen.

Hi Father, This is one of the most beautiful prayers of the liturgical year. Not to be self-promoting… but, we did a six part podcast series on the meaning of this prayer with tons of quotes of spiritual counsel and wisdom from the Desert Fathers that illuminate the petitions for the Lenten season. They can be found beginning on the March 5, 2006 program at our podcast audio archives website http://www.ourlifeinchrist.com/archives.htm
you know….I will go ahead and promote you steve….so that way it will be outside promotion. My readers could do much worse than to listen to you and Bill.
Thanks, Father. St. Ephraim’s prayer is so beautiful and there’s not much available on it, that’s why we spent the time to delve into it… and still didn’t do it justice. If we could live our Christian lives centered on this single prayer, we’d do VERY well….
Beautiful.
