Sabbath Sunday: Repentance

Today I return to St. Thomas after having spent two weeks with several friends and family members, but the thing most on my mind as I return is the recent news of one of my brother priests who has admitted to sexually abusing a child 25 years ago. Unfortunately I have had some experience when it comes to processing this kind of news from situations here in the diocese involving our first bishop and a former pastor of St. Thomas. Nevertheless, it is not easy to once again be going through this experience. One thing that is certain in my mind is that these moments are ones where prayer is needed, especially penitential prayer. Today’s Sabbath Sunday post focuses on just that. You can find it here.

Once again you are invited to join me in promoting the Sabbath by taking a break from your normal blogging. Please share an older post from your blog that is near and dear to your heart. Make sure to leave your name and the URL of your post below and share a comment if you so desire. I look forward to reading your recycled posts!

Though we are connected to other’s pain, we also deal with our own. Sometimes I have to realize I’m not God and let Him take care of the world, which includes me.

This is a piece that I wrote a few Sundays ago. It is something that I try to reflect on continuously because sometimes I lose sight of where I am going.

BTW Although I’m Orthodox, I really get saddened when I hear of sexual abuse cases in the Catholic Church.

    With prayers,

Welcome back from where you were to where you are. (I always figure that where I go there I am.) As for your brother priest, I will pray for him. It is unfortunate that the sins of a few (sins that are more deeply embedded in general society than many people know or want to admit) are used to condemn many. I say that as a victim of child sexual abuse. Repentance, prayer, and forgiveness are needed on all sides. We sometimes forget about the forgiveness part, but it is the most healing.
