Blessed is the Kingdom

Seeking The Kingdom In All Things

Easy’s Gettin’ Harder Every Day

Today was a day centered around struggling. As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, while things began well with this most recent icon, the further along I went, the more difficult it became. This morning I found that even the things that in the past have been the easiest to accomplish, became very difficult. It seemed as if every small task took much more time to accomplish and much more patience and determination. There were many mistakes that needed to be corrected and many accidents that required mending. As a result I was one of the last people in our group to complete the image of the Theotokos, but it is complete and I am happy with the final result.

While I believe that this particular icon is beautiful and I am very happy to see my skills improving, I am also happy to be able to see the places in this icon where I made mistakes, where things didn’t go as I would have liked, where I was disappointed in my lack of ability. Even if I am the only one to see the flaws, they are present in this image and will remind me long after this week of the need for humility, of the need for God’s grace in my life. I couldn’t have asked for a better gift.

May we rest in the prayers of all of the saints, particularly as we try to imitate their humility.
