I didn’t see the movie nor did I read the book. I did hear the author speak on Oprah’s show quite awhile ago. From what she said, then, I did not feel attracted to reading her book. Fr. Barron summarizes it very well, she became self-centered, rather than God-centered. I think when a Christian has tasted and seen that the goodness of the Lord, all people, places, or things that are not God or of God taste like cardboard.

I read this book and I agree with Fr. Barron and your words this morning at Mass.
It scares me to think what kind of picture of Christianity are we presenting to people who are searching for God.

I enjoyed listening to Fr. Barron’s comments regarding the movie, and I absolutely agree with his criticisms. The “prayer” at the beginning of the movie (Eat, Pray, Love) was supposedly answered with an affirmation of traditional Hollywood style self-absorption, self-indulgence, sexual promiscuity, and self-worship. Everything we know to be true about God’s love, grace, forgiveness and purpose were distorted in favor of a humanistic obsession for immediate self pleasure. I’m embarrassed and disgusted to have wasted time and money to see this movie.
