How Great Thou Art
As you may have guessed, internet access has been more difficult to come by in the last few days. Our group just returned from a side trip to the ancient city of Petra, which is in the modern country of Jordan. Petra is the land where Esau and his descendants settled, but you may remember it as the place where Indiana Jones discovered the Holy Grail.
Our group made our way to the famous treasury building and a few of us decided to make the trip to the top of what is known as the thousand steps to an ancient monastery and temple on top of one of the mountain peaks. The walk was well worth it for the spectacular views that my pictures cannot do justice. I will post more of them when I once again have a faster connection to the internet.
The day was summed up well with our opening hymn for mass late in the afternoon.
O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
