Blessed is the Kingdom

Seeking The Kingdom In All Things

Transfiguration

Our group of pilgrims made it safely home, arriving early this morning in what we in East Tennessee like to call God’s Country. I was not able to post these final reflections on our last day in the Holy Land due to a lack of internet connection, so I am doing so today.

We began our last day by visiting Mt. Tabor where it is said the Transfiguration of Christ took place. It seemed to me a very fitting place to celebrate our last mass as pilgrims together.  As we prayed together on our last day my mind kept returning to the words of the apostle Peter, “Lord it is good that we are here.” It indeed has been good to make this journey of faith with a group of inspiring individuals, each one seeking God in the holy places we have visited.

We as Christians know that our faith is not simply about visiting places where important events took place, or to merely reflect upon what has happened in the past. Our goal as Christians is to enter into these events in the same way those who were originally present did. Christ revealed himself to us in the Transfiguration in order that we might see where it is we are called to be one day. If we are to truly enter into the process of theosis, it involves coming down off the mountain and trusting God enough to place our whole lives into his hands. That means picking up the cross and following him through prayer and action in our daily life. It also means humbly asking his forgiveness when we fall. It means allowing him to purify our hearts daily so that slowly we too are transfigured.
