Blessed is the Kingdom

Seeking The Kingdom In All Things

Servants of the Cross

Last night I attended the annual Lenten prayer service at All Saints Catholic Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. The pastor, Fr. Michael Woods was in his usual good form as he read the gospel and then shared the story of the Ragman. If you are not familiar with this story I would encourage you to check out Walter Wangerin, Jr’s book Ragman and other Cries of Faith.

While the story of the Ragman is itself a powerful story of redemption and healing, as I listened to Fr. Michael I was reminded of another short passage from Wangerin’s book which is entitled, “Servants of the Cross”.

Finally, I am convinced that we are not called upon to succeed at anything in this ministry. We are called upon to love. Which is to say, we are called upon to fail, both vigorously and joyfully.

May you fail joyfully this Lent, so that your love may grow and God may succeed in his work of redemption.
