Who Made Us?
In the beginning, God created heaven and earth. (Genesis 1:1)
God made us.
Not only did God make us, he also created the heavens and the earth. Do you ever wonder what God was thinking as he formed the heavens and the earth for us? Do you ever imagine Him there working away to create something that would cause us to delight in what we would see and experience? My guess is that he felt a bit like I do when I am preparing dinner for friends. It starts with an invitation, but that is just the beginning. The real fun is the planning of the menu, shopping for just the right ingredients, and enjoying the anticipation of the guests arriving and hopefully enjoying the food I have spent so much time and effort to place before them. The day of their arrival includes pulling out all I will need to prepare a great dinner. It involves opening a bottle of wine and pouring a glass to help me relax as I begin cooking. It involves preparing for conversation. Imagine all of this amplified 10 to the 100th power when it comes to God’s preparation of the universe for us. And then imagine his joy as he has formed each of us to inhabit that same universe.
Yes, God made us. He made us in order to delight in us. He made us in order to give Himself away to us. He made us to be his beloved. He hopes we will love Him with the same passion with which He loves us.
For some reason this quote from the novel The Color Purple by Alice Walker seems an appropriate way to conclude this post.
I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.
Agreed.
