Who Is God?
In him we live and move and have our being. (Acts 17:28)
God is the Supreme Being, infinitely perfect, who made all things and keeps them in existence.
I have to admit that this answer seems overly simplistic when it comes to describing God. I mean, how does one describe God exactly? It seems almost impossible to come up with a description that is anywhere near adequate. But I suppose we have to say something and I would argue that if one had to say something about God it is best to keep it as simple as possible. I, for one, don’t want to say anything about him that He would take issue with.
One of the things that I am perpetually amazed by when it comes to God is not so much that he created all things, but that he continues to keep it all in existence. If it were me (and here I go playing God), I would be pretty quick to eliminate all the things that didn’t go the way I had planned. But that is not how God works. He creates, and some things go the way he had intended and some things go terribly wrong. It seems to me that one of the HUGE differences between God and us is the amount of patience He has. Even when we continue to screw things up, he continues to give us the benefit of the doubt and to love us enough to give us chance after chance at getting things right.
I’m glad that He doesn’t think the way we do.
