Blessed is the Kingdom

Seeking The Kingdom In All Things

Daily Combat

Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my arms for battle, who prepares my hands for war. (Psalm 144:1)

This morning I was struck during morning prayer by the words above from Psalm 144. It is the prayer of a soldier, one who knows that if he is to win the battle, he must prepare ahead of time.

Our life as Christians should in many ways mirror this sort of preparation. We ought to expect a daily battle with temptation, a battle that will almost certainly have been planned in order to attack us where we are most weak and vulnerable.

One of the things this short line of Scripture shows us is our need for God’s help in winning such engagements with the enemy, but it also reminds us that God expects some effort on our part as well. God doesn’t simply fight the battle for us, instead he gives us the training we need to win.

Let us assist one another with prayer as we set out to face today’s challenges.

Preparation can only occur when we acknowledge what we are preparing for…

We have to admit that this is war… to prepare as soldiers.
