Be Faithful in Little Things
Be Faithful in Little Things
Maxim #25
One of the current gods of our culture, is the desire to achieve success. We are taught to wish for fame, fortune and power. And while our faith is not necessarily in opposition to any of those things, it does place a higher value on faithfulness than upon success. Fr. Thomas Hopko’s 25th Maxim for Christian Living is to “be faithful in little things”. Mother Teresa of Calcutta once put it this way, “Do not think that love in order to be genuine has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired. Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.”
One of the reasons that faithfulness is so key to living a genuine Christian life is that through it we become closer to God who is always faithful to his people. By practicing faithfulness we become more like God the Father and His Son who was faithful unto death to both His Father and to us. It is in being faithful in small things that we gain the practice necessary to remain faithful in the bigger things of life.
Let us strive to be faithful in short times of prayer, in little ways we form self discipline through denying ourselves, and in small acts of love for others.
