Today we celebrate the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is the day Mary was assumed into heaven body and soul. The focus of this feast day is not Mary, but rather the work Christ has done for us through his death and resurrection. Mary is the first recipient of the graces gained for us through Christ. Today we give thanks for Mary’s humble “yes” that allowed our savior’s birth, but we also give thanks that she was raised body and soul to heaven and hope to one day to be blessed with the same fate.
In case you may have forgotten, God is all for us, body and soul. He loves us more than we could ever imagine. The blessings he has bestowed upon his mother are the same blessings he wants to give us. Our job, as the lyrics of the song tell us, is to surrender ourselves to him, body and soul. May this feast day be a reminder.
