Be defined and bound by God alone.

Maxim #45

Most of us have people in our lives that we trust enough to give us advice and guidance. These are usually friends who know us well and care enough about us to help us stay on the path that is best for us. This being said, each one of us should remember that we are defined first by God, and will be judged by God on how we did in living the life He designed for us. A large part of knowing one’s vocation requires time in prayer, because it is God who created each one of us to live in accordance with His plan.

The current election cycle is a good reminder of what happens when we allow others to define us. One of the sad parts of watching the political campaigns of both parties is seeing candidates “redefine” themselves based only on what they believe will sway the media to portray them well and voters to elect them to office.

It cannot be that way with Christians. Those who choose to follow Christ must pattern their lives in a way that each day we will become more of the person God has made us to be.
